Copy/Paste text from Word into Topics pastes both the text and an image of the text

I like that I can copy/paste an image into a thread but if I copy/paste text, it still uploads an image

(Tom Newsom) #2

Where are you copying from?

(Sander Datema) #3

You mean you wanted to show that bit of HTML code instead of the image? If so, use backtics, or select the code and press the </> button in the post editor.

When pasting an <img> tag, Discourse will automatically download (or show) that image.

No, if I copy/paste plain text from Microsoft Word, it generates an image

This is browser specific. What browser are you in? Did you try a different browser?

Excel loves doing this.

What happens is that windows has space on its clipboard for “rich text”, “image” and “text” it’s really hard for us to “do the right thing” ™ and only take text or image. And the image is more handy sometimes especially since we don’t have table formatting out of the box.

This is me pasting from Excel in Chrome.

This happens on Google Chrome 50 on Mac OS X 10. Text copied from Word gets pasted as image. :frowning:
