# Copy selected text to new post, even on a locked topic

I feel I used to be able to do the following, but can’t anymore…

When selecting text in a topic I’m not allowed to post to, I can click Reply, and a new topic is going to be created.

It would be nice if the selected text were included in the new draft.

I which that text were in the draft ^^

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it used to work this way too.

Perhaps its a regression that started when the [new composer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/help-us-test-the-rewritten-composer/34679) was introduced?

As a workaround, you can just highlight the text after the composer opens and hit ‘quote reply’ again.

Looks like it was a regression as @mcwumbly said. Fixed!
