# Create chat channels connected to a group

Hi guys,
how can I create a chat channel connected to a group? And not to a category.
I have different groups ambassadors, hero, beginners, etc and I’d like to permit to chat between them
It looks like I need to choose a category. Why? Is there another way?

Hi @alefattorini, we only support categories for now. This is something which could maybe evolve in the future, but it’s not on the roadmap ATM.

This would be beneficial in our use case, as well…as we’d like to have special interest groups with the ability to chat even if most of their posts on the Forums itself is accessible to the rest of the larger community.

This would be nice as well, a good chunk of our groups don’t need their whole own chat just to have a chat channel.
