I'm curious whether the onebox implementation will support soundcloud or whether there is a reason it couldn't. Great project btw!

It already supports soundcloud...
You just have to change the URL from https to http. Not sure why soundcloud would be doing https, exactly..

Cool, any way to get the https -> http working as I'll have to be supporting people who will tell me everything is broken!? thx

Soundcloud is an authenticated service, and therefore should (in my opinion) be available with https, since it seems to fetch some user-centric data when being embedded.
also, why is meta.discourse not https?

Perhaps the onebox could try fetching http:// when https:// is specified? Or support for an https client could be added, but that would be more complex.

Definitely what should happen. I can already foresee this being a problem with the less tech savy users.

I wouldn't say definitely. I don't use soundcloud, so I can't promise that the same content is served both ways. Lots of services have different websites on http and https.

I think in this case, when someone is just sharing a URL, they might have copied the url from a page on soundcloud while logged in, so they got the https version of the url. Where as if they are not logged in they would get the http version of the url. I think more often than not, people are going to be logged into soundcloud when they copy the url, so more often than not the one box wouldn't show up when pasting the link into discourse.
As far as i am concerned, there is no advantage of having the https version of the link shown. Even if you clicked on it, you would have to go to soundcloud and authenticate before you would be on https.

Could be that they are switching to an always https model, there are reasons for doing so:
Anyway, @neil will get a fix in today for this particular problem!

Great, really appreciate it. I love the ways other oneboxing works. Wish I had time to jump in with code more.

When i click on that link it redirects to http instead of actually using https.
That was my point, having an https link to soundcloud on a discourse board serves no advantage over having a regular http link.
@codinghorror & @neil thanks!

I don't know why it redirects you to http. It does not, for me. I, as an anonymous user with no account, get the page served just fine via https.

I fixed this issue, so SoundCloud links can be http or https.

Works now! p.s. the above is awesome
(the preview is not practically fixable, but it works much better now.)

Seems like the preview for this one is bugged and only shows the related picture. In the first place it made me think that the function overall does not work anymore.

It's working for me in @codinghorror's post above. I can press play and see all the comments. I remember the album flipping in a fancy way before, and that doesn't happen anymore. But otherwise, it works. We get that html from Soundcloud.

@neil Yes, it works. I recognized after I have posted and that's why I requested to delete the post again . What confused me is the preview which shows only the picture (as mentioned in my second post). Sorry for mixing things up here.
