Custom Emoji not working in Profile Card

(Ryan) #1

Noticed this on my site. If a user inserts native emoji into their About Me section, they show correctly. If you use custom emoji it leaves as text. They show correctly on the main profile page.

We should normalize here cc @sam

Maybe profile cards are plain text only? (Unless the other emojis are in the “:text:” format)

(Ryan) #4

There are native emoji that use text.

:iphone: is one and it works on my profile card. Is that what you meant?

In the photo I was wondering if the satellite dish and heart were both Unicode characters, not the typed-out emoji

upon going to andy’s page

I assume :orange: is a custom emoji (because it doesn’t exist here), so could it be that only Discourse emojis will show up on cards? I could try this with my personal server and see…

(Ryan) #7

It is custom. Which applies to the original question :grinning:

Any news on this getting fixed or changed?

We should probably assign to @joffreyjaffeux, our newest team member, who is working in the Emoji area! May take until next month to get sorted though.

It would be pretty easy to do, at the moment user cards are using the excerpt bio instead of cooked bio, switching to the second one would make it work, but do we want this?

#11

yes we do, i noticed it on my site as well, any update on the fix?

(Sam Saffron) #12

I am not following why we can’t just fix it so the excerpt works as well?

(Joffrey Jaffeux) #14

I will dig into this
