# Default letter avatars can not be seen

hello,

default letter avatars can not be seen.

When i go to avatar link i get 404 error.

What is the problem.

i added a url in **default avatars setting** and then reset this setting and problem fixed.

I had the same problem last night. I power cycled my server and it fixed it. Your way sounds easier

You don’t need to do that. Just rebuild your Discourse via SSH, or restart the container.

I think restarting the server (via command line) was faster than rebuilding. And I never remember the command to restart the container.

It’s how I fix my servers at work too
