# Default user avatars not loading

Just upgraded to Discourse 3.5.0.beta2-dev ([ad992d7b2d](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/commits/ad992d7b2d3d4762c2d1a21b4260797fbbebca7b)).

Some unusual behaviour with user avatars, perhaps maybe only on new users, I’m still testing the scope of the issue.

Standard letter-based avatars appear correctly in various menus and category lists:

But when I click on one of the users to view their profile no image is loaded:

Then after 10 seconds or so, this icon appears:

User card is also blank:

I can replicate here on Meta too.

I don’t think so. You are not using [DiscourseConnect](https://meta.discourse.org/t/13045?silent=true); the letter-based avatars are image-generated by Discourse and you’re not using CDN on avatars.
