The discussion is about disabling view counts in statistics.json. MihirR wants to completely hide or remove view counts from the UI and prevent them from being fetched. pfaffman advises against stopping view count capture as it would affect discourse’s ability to track read posts and topics. CocoQuark provides a link to a possible solution. MihirR is looking for flexibility in customizing the forum’s features, specifically view counts and user stats. pfaffman questions the need to remove view counts, suggesting that hiding them with CSS is a simpler solution, and that tracking views is necessary for discourse’s functionality.
Is there a way to completely hide views from the UI? I can do this using CSS, but is it also possible to manually disable it so that it does not get fetched, even in statistics.json?
My primary intention is either to stop capturing the view count entirely, completely remove this feature, or at the very least, limit it to the admin.
Oh, I wasn’t sure that it would affect new topics as well. Actually, my main motive is to limit some features; it feels like there are too many, such as view counts and user stats. For now, my primary interest is in the view count. I know it may not be an extreme issue, but I think there should be flexibility in what to show and what not to, to personalize the forum accordingly.
