# Discourse Database Question/Support

Hello. I am here today to ask a short question. I was wondering if you could tell me if and how I could connect to a PostgreSQL database differently to shown in the [install guide](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md). Currently, it is currently trying to connect to a local instance of PostgreSQL of which we don’t want.

We are trying to figure out how we can connect it to the instance of PostgreSQL that we have in a docker container but we don’t see how we can do it.
