Today I stumbled upon this plugin which solves a recurring issue I have with CommonMark, that it does not support yet Markdown footnotes. This is great news! – CommonMark please add footnotes!

However I find suspicious that the recent commits are to support FontAwesome 5 while current discussion is about to remove FA icons in favor of SVG.

The commit in question, [Add FA5 icon support · discourse/discourse-footnote@669b45e · GitHub](https://github.com/discourse/discourse-footnote/commit/669b45ecef96caca060ce7d08a88f309078cf417), is updating the plugin to support FA via SVG instead of via font.

We’re not removing FontAwesome from Discourse, we’re just changing how it’s rendered. Previously it was an icon font, now it’s SVG.
