EmberJS also used to require jQuery and Discourse is a EmberJS app. We’ve been working, [for a couple of years now](https://meta.discourse.org/t/issue-with-jquery-in-plugin-component/147086/4), on removing jQuery usage from Discourse itself, official plugins and components.

It’s a lot of work but we are getting closer. This very topic is one of the many efforts towards that.
