# Discourse Upgrade fails every time

Hi,

My upgrade fails everytime, here is a screenshot:

when left for sometime, the “upgrade” page and decedent pages are all not working and return “ERROR 500”.

i had to restart discourse to get the pages working again (fixing the error 500), but still the upgrade fails at the same position.

any help appreciated.

Most likely out of memory. Make sure you have a 2gb swapfile. Upgrading is very memory intensive.

i checked i have 2GB memory on x86\_64 machine.

Swapfile not memory. You need a 2gb swapfile unless you have 4gb of RAM.

It’s more helpful to paste logs as text rather than pictures of them, especially when the text that holds the key is off the screen that you pasted.
