# Do Watched Words function in PMs?

Is there a way to alert the admin to watched words in PMs? I’m unfortunately experiencing an issue with one banned user who keeps signing up to the forum again with a new IP and PM’ing our users.

The ‘Flag’ option also flags personal messages

As @ondrej mentioned, the “Flag” option will also flag PMs, which will send a notification to moderators on the site, so you could use that setting to alert staff about watched words in PMs.

In addition to Watched Words, if you’re finding that a banned users keeps signing up the forum and sending PMs to users, you might find some of the ideas mentioned in [Tips for Preventing Spam](https://meta.discourse.org/t/tips-for-preventing-spam/264020) helpful.
