# Docker install, endless "downloading base image"

You don’t need docker for the developer install. Just vagrant if you’re running Windows (_or want to run your dev env in a VM_). Alternatively you can follow any of the [advanced](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/docs/DEVELOPER-ADVANCED.md) [setups](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/docs/DEVELOPMENT-OSX-NATIVE.md).
