Docker Overlay2 it takes up too much space

(Hakan) #1

I use 8GB ram, 4CPU and 80 GB SSD VPS. But not enough space.

There is my site 800 user, 3K topic (maybe 300image)

overlay 78G 67G 6.4G 92% /var/lib/docker/overlay2/0fa839e5c3f7d89b7ad9e5a2857e4a2283bed420415a571d02c2abb53f936178/merged

Could it still take up a lot of space?

There’s probably a bunch of old docker images taking up most of that space. There are prior topics about cleaning up space in Docker.

I use overlay2 on my blog and also noticed the crazy disk space issues. Occasionally I just nuke all my containers and images and start from scratch

Aufs is far less strange in this department

On the upside besides crazy disk space issues overlay2 seems to work fine

Although my server features are good, there is a lot of space.

Maybe new discourse version you need to work for it.

This is nothing particular to Discourse, it’s an issue with Docker. We’ve done a lot of work to try and work around Docker’s limitations, but there’s only so much that can be done.
