# Does the server need 2GB of RAM?

I know it’s an old post, but I was looking right now at hosting Discourse on a Digital Ocean Droplet and they state that it requires a minimum of 2gigs.

Yes, their 1-click install is only enabled if you select a 2GB droplet. This is because they don’t want you using swap.

If you setup a 1GB droplet, and follow [the only supported guide to install discourse](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md), it just works.
