# Editing default signup field descriptions

Long time user and fan, first time admin setting up a small community. Here goes first post.

I used the pointers in this old thread to find and replace other text

However, how do I identify fields that are named too generically and have no current field description? I tried looking for hints in browser’s HTML, no luck there.

On the sign up page, for example, I would like to add a description to two fields (username and full name) on how to choose a username, and that user’s full name is required.

Even on this site’s sign up form, the descriptions are blank.

What should I be searching for to identify the `Username` and `Name` field description text at `admin/customize/site_texts`?

Make sure to enable those settings:

Then, look for `.instructions`
