Email notifications from user with Unicode chars in name fails through Amazon SES

(Yousef Alam) #1

When a certain user on our discourse forum (name is Rubén Martín) makes a reply, the email notification to other users fails to send with the below error:

553 <Rubén Martín [nukeador] <discourse@mozilla-community.org> Invalid email address.

We’re using Amazon SES as the SMTP server. I think it’s some type of encoding error?

Any help is appreciated.

Can you add this to your list to test @techapj?

I saw on Mozilla’s Discourse community, the complete user name is Rubén Martín [:nukeador]. I tried to reproduce the error with the same name, but I was unable to reproduce it. :disappointed:

Is that an older version of Discourse? Could be the email service too I guess?

We’re running 1.2.0beta2, and yes, the issue only occurs when using SES. Using Mandrill, the emails send successfully.
