Enable pop3_polling_enabled error

(jj11909) #1

Hello all,

I am trying to enable pop3 polling to support new topics and replies via email. This is a hotly request feature on our site and I was pleased to see that the functionality existed. I have however hit a snag.

When I try to enable it via the admin site page I get the following error:

So next I tried to do it via the terminal as I thought maybe it was just an issue within the webpage so I run the command: SiteSetting.pop3_polling_enabled = true , however when I run this I get the error:

pop3_terminal

is this a bug in my installation or something else going on? Any ideas? The logs are not helpful here. They report no errors for the corresponding timeframe (siteurl/logs)

It appears that you can’t connect to the pop3 server. See if you can

telnet pop-host 110

from your server. Can’t tell if you’re getting blocked on the way out or the pop3 server is blocking incoming connections, but it’s probably the latter.

@pfaffman

I think you are right :facepalm:.

We are using 365 and I don’t think our IT department configured things right.

I remember the pop3 settings must be enabled in a particular order otherwise you get this cryptic error… For example missing some setting fields will trigger similar errors.
