Discourse is a framework, a bag of tools to build your own community. It will do what you configure and customise it to do. This specific community is about using those tools and collaborating with the discourse team and fellow users thereof (my interpretation anyway).
For me it is primarily a form of access to technical support and related resources, and more recently, in this sub-category, to understand the challenges and successes of others that run communities.
You seem to have the cart in front of the horse and really need to have a solid idea about what you want to achieve before you start digging into the technical nitty-gritty of the platform.
This topic does seem like a slight variation on the theme of the previous, now closed, topic.
