It’s not likely. I don’t know if Akismet was ever configured, but it’s no longer very effective. What’s recommended now is this: [Discourse AI - Spam detection](https://meta.discourse.org/t/discourse-ai-spam-detection/343541) The AI plugin is now part of core and is installed.

EDIT: It’s possible, but not likely, that the change described [here](https://meta.discourse.org/t/is-min-first-post-typing-time-still-available/352983/9) could explain your spam uptick.
