# Feature question: Can discourse be configured to send responses as email

_Sorry if I didn’t do a good job googling this._

I am not talking about replying via email but a response to this post showing up in my inbox.

@Quintin_Par, Discourse does this out of the box, no special setup required.

By default, if a user isn’t seen on the website for 10 minutes, they’ll be emailed if a post is replied to, they’re mentioned, invited, or a few other situations. All email related settings can be tweaked in user preferences.

Hmm. I’ve never received these email. I get a weekly activity digest, but never an email response. Is there something that I must be doing wrong during signup?

Make sure you check the box “Send me email notifications even when I am active on the site” in your user preferences.
