설정에서 `staff colour`를 찾으려 했는데, 미국인이라 `color`를 `colour`가 아닌 `color`로 입력했습니다. 왜 실패했는지 확인하던 중 철자가 영국식임을 알게 되었습니다.
그래서 어떤 일이 일어나는지 보기 위해 두 철자 모두를 검색어로 시도해 보았는데, 역시 서로 다릅니다.

참고로, `site_setting`인 경우에는 실제 설정 이름을 사용하지만, 일반적인 설명이나 대화에서는 평소대로 표기하는 방식을 유지하는 편입니다. 카테고리 이름과 설명에는 더 신경을 쓰려고 하지만, 거기까지가 제 한계인 것 같습니다. 🙂

그리고 (아니면… 어떻게 보느냐에 따라 다르지만 😏) 비영어권 작가인 우리도 상당히 많습니다. 핀란드에서는 학교에서 오xford식 영어(RP)를 배우지만, 실제로 사용하는 언어는 미국 TV 시리즈에서 옵니다. 그리고 진짜 현실에서는 두 방식 모두 똑같이 못합니다 😉
즉, 우리 — 또는 나 — 는 _no one didn’t do nothing_ 같은 문장을 쓰지 않으려는 매우 단단한 장벽을 가지고 있지만, 동시에 저주받은 전치사(god cursed prepositions)를 어떻게, 언제 써야 하는지 전혀 모르겠다는 겁니다. 호텔 방은 예약할 수 있고, 살롱슈즈를 신고 마티니를 마실 수도 있지만, 바로 그 소소한 잡담(small talk)만은 할 수 없어요.
하지만 제 핵심 주제는, 타이핑과 글쓰기에서 `color`와 `colour`의 차이를 알아채지 못한다는 겁니다. 그래서 영어(미국), 영어(영국)를 비롯한 약 열두 가지의 네이티브 영어… 영어(englishes) 🤔 중 어떤 것이 사용 중이든, 검색 결과가 항상 두 형태 모두에서 나오도록 해주는 해결책이 있으면 좋겠다고 생각합니다.
리프트(lift)든 엘리베이터(elevator)든 누가 신경 쓰겠어요, 하지만 color와 colour는 동등하게 처리되어야 합니다.
이게 큰 문제일까요? 사실은 아니에요. 그냥 좋은 마무리이자 작은 배려일 뿐입니다.
