Giant blank space at bottom of pages after entering a reply

(Anton) #1

This case is best explained with screenshots, so I’ll use few words.

State 1 I’m about to post new answer:

Please make a note that there is enough space to put my new message into without having to scroll the page.

State 2 I’ve just posted my short answer:

I noticed this unneeded page scrolling happens all the time for me when actually it is not needed.
Also, after posting a message, I usually expect to see as much messages before mine as possible - I do not know why, it’s just what I expect naturally. Anyone here feels the same?

If it was discussed already and the decision was made, then maybe at least lets avoid scrolling when it’s enough of space to put my new message?

You need the additional space at the bottom of the topic to show the composer.

We also need space to have definitive indication that the user has reached the bottom of the page with infinite scrolling.

I actually think this is a bug:

  1. Got to topic, scroll to bottom, footer size is reasonable.
  2. Click on “reply”, size it up to something huge
  3. Minimize it.
  4. Footer size is massive full of blank.

Possibly but that’s a very large set of sequential circumstances that are not particularly common, and the “bug” is not exactly killing children, is it?

Not nearly as severe as the bug where the composer makes no room in the page when you navigate around to the admin screens.

A comprehensive fix would take care of all this edge casyiness.
