# Got request to delete a user account

I didn’t found the answer by searching it.
Can the user delete his account by himself?
If yes how?
will the account be deleted or anoymized?

how do i delete all the posts?
how do i just anonymize them?

Yes, but Depending on how many posts he/she has and how old they.
They do it via their profile.
Profile \> Preferences \> Account
Right at the bottom

Mods/Admins can delete them as well, depending on the amount of posts

Your first port of call here as a staff memebr should be to [anonymise](https://meta.discourse.org/t/anonymizing-users-in-discourse/86929) the user so that there are not gaps left in a discussion especially if they are a prominent user.

had to change some settigs about user
but in the end was able to delete it…

I can’t delete my _Discourse_ account on Brave’s ‘support forum’. Is allowing this an admin option?
Doesn’t this contravene GDPR by removing control from the data owner?

Users can only be deleted if they have no posts. So staff needs to delete the posts too. There is a setting that configures how old those posts are allowed to be and how many posts are deleted. If the user has older posts, this timeframe can be increased by a setting. Also the number of posts that can be deleted can be increased. Deleting a lot of posts can cause gaps in the conversations.
In general, the preferred way is [anonymization](https://meta.discourse.org/t/anonymizing-a-user-account/314902), which deletes all personal information like username, email address, password, and so on, but not the posts. So the topics where the user participated still make sense.
By default, users can only self-delete their account if they have 1 or less posts (but that can also be increased by admins).
So to delete an account at another forum, you need to ask at that forum. Only staff at that forum can help you.
