I am not sure about the [Data Explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) Plugin, but I am also just a moderator and got all the data I needed via a basic export from the Admin Dashboard. If you click on any of the stats in the Dashboard, you can select the time period you wish to view and then export it directly to a `csv` file. Then you can open it via the spreadsheet view of your choice and create the graph there.
