# Gravatars

Hi all,

If I am not wrong, the Gravatar setting finds an image related to the registration email and adds it to the avatar of the member.

Is there a way to know which avatars have been added automatically and which ones manually via personal profile?

We are concerned about security and can see that an image within a post cannot be seen externally if knowing the image URL but this is not the case of avatars.  
Is there a way to stop sharing an avatar image with those not logged in to Discourse?

You can search site settings for “gravatar” and find the settings having to do with them. It’s not clear that you can turn them off, but you could put a bogus source for gravatars so they wouldn’t work.

Finding which users are using gravatars would require the [data explorer](https://meta.discourse.org/t/32566?silent=true) plugin.
