I am curious what approaches communities take to cultivating the moderator-base, how you select, guide and support new moderators.

There is always a degree of churn, and moderator burn-out can be a real issue if the support environment and culture is lacking.

We’re entering a growth phase and I am trying to put the right structure and support in place.

Top of mind is a decent moderator handbook, though more likely in a friendly helper bot form, that can be referred to.

To me, good guidelines are foundational, for members and mods alike, so that is an area I have focused on.

So to all of you I ask, how are you going about this? What has or hasn’t worked?

I try avoid learning by making mistakes, it’s always better to learn from the mistakes and successes of others. Thanks in advance for your time.
