# Have Akismet scan private messages

Now that new users can mail groups, it would be good to have Akismet scan those mails, right? It’s turned off by design now.

Hmmm maybe … we have not had any issues with this quite yet, but mainly cause we are polling gmail that takes care of spam scanning for us anyway.

Reasonable idea but I would much much much much rather get Akismet scanning new user About Me entries before this. That is an actual problem in practice, this is only a problem in theory.
