# Hide username from welcome banner

In our community, some users brought up the point to hide the username in the welcome banner. They are noting either privacy concerns since their username would be highly visible when using it in public or in an office setting.

You can remove the name by customizing that text, just like you can [customize any text](https://meta.discourse.org/t/customize-text-in-discourse/36092).  
The text is `js.welcome_banner.header.logged_in_members`, and then you remove the `preferred_display_name`.
