Home/Index taking to long to load

(Tomo Vukasović) #1

It is taking to long to load homepage index page. Even here on your instance it can be slow, but it is much slower on 2GB Digital Ocean droplet. I understand that Discourse needs a lot of resources, but line has to be drawn somewhere as we progress from 1.0 forward. Speed has to be one of the main concerns before adding additional features.

Loading image could solve problem temporarily at least when going back to homepage from certain topic.

My site page load slow I have no idea
How to add a loading page, some like Gmail?

Please back this up with some science, what does http://www.webpagetest.org/ show? What are your expectations?

(bubill) #3

can’t open www.webpagetest.org

(Tomo Vukasović) #4

My expectation is definitely bellow 6-8 seconds.

Visitors a day 200
Less than 100 topics (new forum)
2GB Digital Ocean droplet

I have noticed slower back to home response in other discourse instances.

me,too.
Sombody said that your website can NOT open ! Actually it take a long time. :frowning:

See what you get using Website speed test

I get

Page size: 725.5 kB
Load Time: 5.1 s
Requests: 69

I am seeing first time renders in 5 secs or so and repeats in 3 secs or so, look at filmstrip.

This does appear somewhat slower than it used to be so I will investigate. Server side there is no issue, its serving the front page well under a second. Most of this is client side.

I have clean 2GB docker install latest test passed version. Swap set. Still I am loading 6 seconds and sometimes even more if user is logged in. Not always sometimes it loads in 1-2 seconds.

@sam the slow query I posted over in the “slow queries” post might be relevant to this.

In addition I have 5-7 other queries I consider to be slow.
