# Hosting Discourse on Shared Hosting?

Is it possible to host Discourse via shared hosting companies such as Host Gator? If no, why? Am I an idiot for asking? I want to know!

No it isn’t on shared hosting, as it requires Docker to do the install,  
which requires special kernel versions and such.

Idiot for asking? No. Idiot for not searching for something that has been  
answered bunch of times already, perhaps. 🙂
