I don’t know what “METERS” is (is it Metermail?), but you can change SMTP settings by editing your app.yml file. The steps are also described here: Troubleshoot email on a new Discourse install

Which SMTP do you recommend for sending?

It depends on how many emails your forum will send each month. For a small forum, the free Mailgun plan might be enough with 100 emails per day, until you figure out if you need more.

Just a side note that Brevo gives 300 a day for free. No issues so far.
