# How do you get 2 sub-categories?

i have tired all the settings i can find, and can’t figure this out.

There are only categories and sub-categories. There are no sub-sub categories.

On your home page you can click the little hamburger next to the new topic button and add a category. You can then choose a parent category for it.

then how does this forum get 2 sub-categories for certain topics?

There is now a hidden setting called `max_category_nesting` that can be changed at the rails console. [Sub-sub-categories - #2 by jomaxro](https://meta.discourse.org/t/sub-sub-categories/139309/2) offers some hints.
