# How do you send a membership request to a group owner?

Sorry if this a really dumb question, I’ve been reading about groups for quite a bit, but I can’t seem to find the workflow of how a member requests access to a private group. I assume the “Allow users to send membership requests to group owners” setting would allow a member to request access to a group from the group landing page…the group owner would then be notified to approve or deny…but I don’t understand how members make the original request, nor how the group owner would allow/deny the request.
