How to add a user's gamer tag to their profile?

(Theron Boerner) #1

Is there a way to have a custom field on the user’s profile like gamer tag or username in game?

How to create a plugin that change the layout and add new table

This is being discussed in the Automated Signatures? thread.

I think this is a much better topic for it than that one. We should generalize it to “how to add an additional field to the user profile” though, which has also come up before.

I agree that is a good generalization.

More specific to original question - would it be possible to fill such profile fields in an automated way? For example, one such “gamer tag” could come from Valve/Steam and their OpenID/Web API.

I’d really love to see custom profile fields in Discourse. Considering jumping over, but it’d be a deal breaker if they aren’t an option. For us, building out a custom profile to display member expertise in a niche is really powerful, and helps give deeper insights into individual members.

This is already supported in the backend and extensible using plugins.

This is now possible as @eviltrout added support for custom user fields.

See admin, customize, user fields.
