How to free up disk space on my Digital Ocean server?

(Camille Roux) #1

I’m using a standard configuration on Digital Ocean as explain in your tutorial. The download_remote_images_to_local has been desactivated and 77.2% of the 29.40GB disk space is used.
S3 is configured, so images should not be saved locally.
How can I free up disk space in indor to reactivate download_remote_images_to_local?

Have you identified what’s using your disk space? Is it the uploads directory? It could be old docker images that aren’t cleaned up properly.

Here is some info:

> du -sh /var/discourse
2.2G	/var/discourse

> du -sh /var/discourse/shared/standalone/uploads/
151M	/var/discourse/shared/standalone/uploads/

More interesting:

> du -h --max-depth=1 /var/lib/docker/aufs
292K	/var/lib/docker/aufs/layers
1.3G	/var/lib/docker/aufs/mnt
18G	/var/lib/docker/aufs/diff
20G	/var/lib/docker/aufs

Is it normal? How can I free it up?

PS : I’m not confortable with sys admin. If you have some commands to execute to give you more information, it can help a lot

That’s what I thought, you’ll find more information here to clear up some of the old docker images

Much better now!

>du -h --max-depth=1 /var/lib/docker/aufs44K	/var/lib/docker/aufs/layers
1.3G	/var/lib/docker/aufs/mnt
1.8G	/var/lib/docker/aufs/diff
3.1G	/var/lib/docker/aufs

Thank you @zogstrip

/var/lib/docker/aufs/diff increasing in size
