How to move from standalone setup to separate containers?

Very much prefer if there is an easy to follow guide like the official one w standalone container.

@tuananh I’m working on the exact same thing, with the hope of creating a guide. Right now I haven’t found a very specific guide. Here’s a description of my discoveries thus far. Running a separate data container.

Is it just possible to save a backup and then import to a new discourse? Is everything copied over?

Yes, this is correct - once you have the new setup working, you can just restore a backup (followed by a ./launcher restart web_a && ./launcher restart web_b) and it will work.

I managed to do this just recently. The most disconcerting thing about restoring from backup is that it appears to never finish. It works though  Also, it might look like the setting are not restored but a restart will fix that.
