How to remove pinned topics excerpts?

#1

Hello. The question is pretty clear. Does anyone know how to do that?

When I click on “Latest”, pinned topics have no excerpts - that’s great.

But when I reload the main discourse page, pinned topics are with excerpts. How to remove them?

The second sentence is a bug. There is no way to remove pinned excerpts.

The sentence is not a bug. Or are you talking about a bug in Discourse?

Below are two screenshots. 1st - fresh load. 2nd - after clicking on “Latest”.

I have changed “post excerpt maxlength” to 0 in settings. Maybe this is doing something.

If there is no easy way to remove the excerpt using settings, then maybe you can point where this excerpt is defined in the code, which file? Then I will experiment and maybe find a solution myself.

That’s a bug – we are going to fix that.

CSS customization will take care of this for you.

div.topic-excerpt { display: none; }

So simple and it works perfectly. Thank you!

I looked at the logic and it seems quite deliberate so I am not sure I should be removing it so close to our release.

The logic seems to be:

  • If the topic is pinned globally
    • Show the excerpt when not filtered by category
  • If the topic is not pinned globally
    • Show the excerpt when filtered by category

Just noticed this on our board (Beta 8) - the disappearing / reappearing pinned topic excerpts.

Is there a fix under development, or should I just get rid of them via CSS?
