# I have some questions about multisite

I’m trying to understand the discourse multisite feature.
Does multisite run from one database, i.e. users signed up can post on any of the forums? Or is each forum completely separate as if it is a different installation entirely?

Each multisite has its own database. There is no cross-posting allowed.
The shared part is the ruby processes / memory. It allows you to run more Discourse instances on a server than you’d normally be able to due to sharing.
