# Inconsistent behaviour with “Open all external links in a new tab” option

Hello.
This issue has been brought a few times already and I see some PR code fix were also submitted.
Maybe it has worked some times since the fixes.
But at the moment I still have inconsistencies with this “ **Open all external links in a new tab** ” option:
As I have this option activated, I expect any external link will open in a new tab.
I don’t have to think that in this or that context I should make a special click to open in a new tab as my regular left click should open all of them in a new tab.
That is how a full time “ **Open all external links in a new tab** ” user expects the site to work.

## Reproduce the bug
First check “ **Open all external links in a new tab** ” option in your [interface settings](https://meta.discourse.org/u/jesus2099/preferences/interface) and save.
Then:
- It does not work in quoted text: [Click one of the two “ **Our partners - VideoLAN** ” external links in that quoted text](https://meta.discourse.org/t/external-links-in-quoted-text-don-t-follow-open-all-external-links-in-a-new-tab-setting/44349/2), it will open in current tab instead of new tab
- It does not work in edit history: [Click one of the three external links in that edit history (the upper‐right **✎** pencil icon)](https://meta.discourse.org/t/open-all-external-links-in-a-new-tab-option-does-not-work-for-protocol-agnostic-links/42224), it will open in current tab instead of new tab
