# Installation on DigitalOcean with 1GB RAM complaining

Using the guide at [discourse/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md at main · discourse/discourse · GitHub](https://github.com/discourse/discourse/blob/master/docs/INSTALL-cloud.md), I’m trying to install discourse on a DigitalOcean droplet with 1GB RAM. the discourse-setup script says I need to configure a swap file. DigitalOcean does not want me to use a swap file. At the top of the Discourse install guide, it says that a 1GB server is sufficient. How do I continue without using a swap file? The only option is to continue or exit the discourse-setup script.

You continue by using a swap file. DigitalOcean doesn’t want you using a swap file because they can then sell you bigger droplets.

And you need a swap file with a 2gb droplet too (but only during upgrades).
