The problem is that when Show separate sidebar modes for forum and chat is set to “always” and you are using the chat drawer, there’s no way to access the all-channel search, because we don’t add any chat links (search or otherwise) to the sidebar in this case and there’s no all-channel search in drawer.
I think this makes sense, it’ll close this gap and make channel-search easier to access for folks with crowded sidebars (even if they do have chat links there).
Is there anything I need to do to enable this feature on the self-hosted version?
I have 3.5.2 installed.
You just have to update your site to the latest version.
New features aren’t added on the stable branch until the next release (3.6.0). So you would have to switch to latest.

However, I can only see it when ‘Channels’ are selected, but not when ‘DMs’ or ‘My Threads’ are. I think it needs to be there for all three - especially as there is a site setting which allows DMs to be the default view.

If you updated quite recently, your chat messages could still be indexing.
Its been updated for awhile and the chats are not that busy. Ill try rebuilding again. In prod, without telling everyone 
And it worked, the search is there.
