# Introducing GIFV into Discourse

Now I am sure many people have heard about the [GIFV feature on imgur](http://imgur.com/blog/2014/10/09/introducing-gifv/). I was wondering if it would be a good idea to add this feature onto discourse, because I think it would make using gifs much cleaner and it would also give developers more options when it comes to animated things. (ex. Playback controls.)

animated gifs are a huge pain on Discourse performance wise, they are huge and often take the web browser out of action.
totally open for all sorts of optimisations here including auto optimising using a 3rd party service (optionally)
however this work is not slotted at the moment, would probably need to come from the community.
