Introducing the unified new view for the topic list

:warning: This change will become permanent soon. You will no longer be able to opt-out.

Is there a timeline on the “soon” here?

There are a few different ways to slice it, but new and unread are both dependent on the individual user. They can also be completely empty.

Latest on the other hand is more global (excluding user muted categories) and already contains your new and unread content. So there’s nothing to merge with latest, because it’s already there.

Not too far now…I’ve fixed the last actual bug that was around. I appreciate yours and others’ input here, but we will make the functionality as it stands Permanent, then any further UX changes (like e.g. adding a dropdown to the New tab or adding user preferences around this) can go in a Contribute > Feature request topic.

As I said earlier in the topic too, it shouldn’t be too hard to make a theme component for your community if needed, since the topicTrackingState service still has the individual counts, we won’t be removing this.

Since this change was in part to fix confusion among some users, how has their feedback been? Obviously some of us here are complaining, but I’m curious if we’re in the minority or whether there’s just been silence on the other side.

This is a bad idea, IMHO. Please make it permanently configurable.

OTOH, renaming “Unread” to “Replies” is a good idea.

Having to click “New” and then click “Replies” works, but it’s a lot of extra clicks when I try to get up to speed on all the threads I’m active in while I drink my morning coffee.

First world problem for sure. But please: allow us to opt out permanently.

Thanks,
Gunnar
