You’re looking for parent-child tag relationships. Information on setting that up is in [Set up structured tagging with tag groups and category tag restrictions](https://meta.discourse.org/t/tags-category-restrictions-tag-groups-relationships/48260) (which is linked to from the topic Jay shared. In fact, car make/model is the example used!
