The plugins directory is outside the docker container and mounted. So if you are running your discourse docker from within ~/discourse, you can clone your plugins or symlink into ~discourse/plugins locally.

That’s for production, remote installs. If you are talking locally you should consider the dev docker install I’ve linked . Running a production install locally is a bit … funky.

If you want to turn the production install into a Frankenstein that is able to access the local mounted directories, you will need to change the build scripts to give it that access. To reload the plugins you need to reboot the docker container with the appropriate command
