Plugin vs. theme component

Continuing the discussion from Thumbs up, twice: Sorry, I didn’t try search — I’m a horrible person. But if out there is a plugin and a theme component and those do (almost) same thing what is the most important difference between those two? A plugin needs rebuilding, of course, but is there some other reasons why other is better choice than other?

When to use a plugin vs theme component?

I need to do little changes to some views: Eg: change the datetime format to extended one (DD/MM/YYY HH:MM) [Screenshot 2024-02-28 at 12.14.36] add a tooltip to long category titles [Screenshot 2024-02-28 at 12.21.37] view long category titles on two rows [Screenshot 2024-02-28 at 12.21.56] Do I need to create a plugin for every change? even if is really small like only css? Thanks for your help.

Theme-Component v Plugin: What's the difference

Can someone clarify the difference between these three Discourse concepts: theme-component, plugin, and pluginAPI. Especially between theme-component and plugin. If I want to customize my forum, how do I know which to build? (sorry if I missed this distinction in the intro, but I’m not seeing it there)
