# Is there a topic post limit?

Is there a hard limit for the number of posts in a single topic? I couldn’t find any information about a ceiling for this, but wanted to be sure before I write a script that will insert about 20,000 posts (ingesting messages from a very long chat log) into a single topic, which will continue to grow larger over time.

By default the setting `auto close topics post count` is set to 10k. I recommend keeping stuff below this number, you can break into a new topic every N (where N ~ 1k) and link between posts.

Usually a date range is helpful here in the topic title like
> NFL teams chat 2015
or
> Arsenal is the best! Nov 2015
or
> Gardening progress, Spring 2013
And of course you can use categories or tags (or just a common identical topic title minus dates) to tie them together.
