# Is there a way to globally suppress a category from mailing list mode?

You could default that category to muted for new registrations and then [set it historically to muted](https://meta.discourse.org/t/how-do-i-set-category-tracking-level-defaults-historically/53165?source_topic_id=46987) for all existing users.
